WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?
I am motivated by people who have had to overcome major obstacles in their life, and still have a great sense of humor regardless.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
The odd; the unusual; the unknown. The obvious, the not so obvious…anything really! I’m easily inspired.
WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF?
The ideal for me is to say that ‘nothing scares me’. Sometimes that works and it’s the best place for me to be In. However, the only thing that truly does scare me is the ongoing political and environmental instability and injustice in the world. Oh, and sometimes when you doubt yourself, because it’s usually for no reason.
WHERE DO YOU HOPE TO SEE CHANGE IN THE WORLD?
Right now I’m most focused on seeing the end of intersex genital mutilation, intersex children should be able to consent for what’s done to their bodies.
HOW DO YOU THINK INDIVIDUALS CAN HELP?
I believe that any individual has the power to awaken a community. You are not alone in your suffering, injustice, problems, ideals or tough situation. Even though it can absolutely feel that way, there are many who feel similar things. Sometimes it takes only the courage of one person, then two, then three individuals, and suddenly an entire community of like-minded people have the ability to change society!
WHAT IS YOUR PHILOSOPHY ON RELATIONSHIPS?
We all depend on one another, so we had better be kind to each other. Relationships are key to survival.
YOUR PHILOSOPHY ON LIFE?
I’ve had a few of those in the course of my life already, but at the moment I love Chelsea Manning’s mantra: “We got this!”
SOMETHING YOU WISH MORE PEOPLE KNEW?
Being intersex can actually be pretty awesome! Especially since my disclosure in January, I feel stronger in myself than every before. I do still wish though that my body had been left intact.
